    Medical Technologist Supervisor

    Classification Minimum Requirements:

    Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

    Job Description:

    Perform molecular testing in a clinical lab including oncology testing (targeted gene profiling, fusion detection, tumor-normal comparison, fragment size analysis, etc), pharmacogenomics testing (SNP genotyping, copy number analysis) and infectious disease testing. Primary duties will consist of high-throughput testing in clinical service. In addition, the incumbent will manage and execute laboratory work required for the successful completion of translational research projects. The incumbent may also train visiting/junior staff including graduate students involved in research. Responsible for all routine documentation associated with the performance of laboratory testing including reporting results and all quality control documentation. Participate in the overall maintenance of the laboratory. Purchase supplies, maintain instruments and equipment, and comply with all laboratory policies and procedures.

    Serve as a lead technical resource and backup supervisor for the Molecular Pathology Laboratory. In conjunction with the Medical Technologist Supervisor, assist with daily laboratory operations including ensuring compliance with federal, state, CAP, CLIA, and institutional regulations; coordinating and administering proficiency testing programs; monitoring and reviewing quality control activities; reviewing and releasing test results as appropriate; maintaining laboratory policies and procedures including recommending updates and implementing changes; ensuring preventive maintenance and service activities are performed appropriately for laboratory instrumentation; monitoring laboratory inventory and supply levels; and providing technical guidance, training, and support to laboratory personnel.

    Participate in the development and implementation of new clinical molecular diagnostic testing procedures and clinical trial tests. Activities will include protocol development utilizing various platforms and various types of robotics as well as data analysis using a variety of commercial and in-house developed software. Methodologies and applications include next generation sequencing (NGS), RNAseq, real time qPCR, TMA, Nucleic Acid Extractions and more.

    Attend laboratory meeting and communicate with other departments.

    Actively participate in the interfacing of automated instrumentation with the laboratory information system (LIS) and be involved in LIS-associated tasks such as test builds and dictionary maintenance.

    Expected Salary:

    Salary range is between $85,000 - $92,000, commensurate with experience

    Required Qualifications:

    Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in one of the specialty areas to which the position is allocated and five years of appropriate experience.

    Preferred:

    Experience in a clinical molecular diagnostics laboratory with expertise in DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, and various sequencing platforms. Familiarity with molecular laboratory instrumentation, software applications, quality systems, and experience with regulatory requirements is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, analyze data, communicate effectively, and function as a collaborative member of a laboratory team. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
