    • Active medical staff appointment at a UF Health entity or eligibility for appointment.

    The Opportunity

    The UF Health System Medical Director for Infection Prevention & Control serves as the enterprise physician leader for infection prevention, healthcare epidemiology, healthcare-associated infection (HAI) reduction, and emerging infectious disease preparedness across the UF Health Clinical Enterprise.

    Reporting to the UF Health System Chief Quality Officer, the Medical Director provides strategic physician leadership to advance enterprise infection prevention priorities, support patient safety initiatives, and promote consistent infection prevention standards across UF Health hospitals, ambulatory settings, and affiliated clinical entities. Working collaboratively with physician executives, infection prevention leaders, quality leaders, and operational partners, the Medical Director helps drive systemwide quality, regulatory readiness, and public health preparedness.

    This is a matrixed physician leadership role that advances enterprise infection prevention strategy through collaboration and influence rather than direct operational authority. Operational responsibility for local infection prevention programs remains with each UF Health entity and its local infection prevention leadership.

    This is a faculty leadership administrative role up to .20 FTE.

    Enterprise Leadership

    • Provide enterprise physician leadership for infection prevention and healthcare epidemiology across the UF Health Clinical Enterprise.
    • Serve as the senior physician advisor on infection prevention strategy, policy, governance, and performance improvement.
    • Develop enterprise infection prevention standards, policies, and clinical guidance to promote consistent, evidence-based practices across the enterprise.
    • Advance enterprise infection prevention priorities while promoting alignment of best practices across UF Health entities.

    Quality & Patient Safety

    • Lead physician engagement to reduce healthcare-associated infections and improve patient safety outcomes.
    • Lead enterprise initiatives focused on reducing healthcare-associated infections, including CLABSI, CAUTI, MRSA BSI, C. difficile, SSI.
    • Partner with infection prevention, quality, nursing, and operational leaders to implement evidence-based practices and improve enterprise performance.
    • Review enterprise infection prevention metrics and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
    • Promote physician engagement and education to support adoption of infection prevention initiatives and best practices across the health system.

    Preparedness & Regulatory Leadership

    • Provide physician leadership for infectious disease preparedness, outbreak response, pandemic planning, isolation guidance, surge planning, and emerging health threats.
    • Support enterprise preparedness, regulatory readiness, and compliance with CMS, The Joint Commission, and other applicable standards.
    • Serve as the physician liaison with public health agencies and external partners, as appropriate.

    Governance & Collaboration

    • Chair or participate in enterprise infection prevention committees and governance groups.
    • Convene Infection Prevention Medical Directors to promote collaboration, alignment, and the dissemination of best practices across the health system.
    • Serve as the enterprise physician advisor and subject matter expert for infection prevention and healthcare epidemiology.
    Expected Salary:

    Commensurate with experience and education.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
    • Board certification in Infectious Diseases.
    • Unrestricted medical license in the State of Florida, or ability to obtain Florida licensure.
    • Active medical staff appointment at a UF Health entity or eligibility for appointment.
    • Minimum of five years of post-fellowship clinical experience.
    Preferred:
    • Experience serving as a Medical Director of Infection Prevention, Healthcare Epidemiologist, or in a similar physician leadership role.
    • Experience leading enterprise, regional, or multi-hospital infection prevention programs.
    • Experience with healthcare-associated infection reduction, quality improvement, and regulatory readiness.
    • Academic leadership, teaching, or research experience in infectious diseases, healthcare epidemiology, quality, or patient safety.
