    Job Description:

    Position Function:

    The Department of Kinesiology at Mississippi State University is seeking to hire an Assistant/Associate Professor in Strength and Conditioning. This position will be responsible for research, teaching, and service within the department's Strength and Conditioning Program.

    Salary Grade: UC

    For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

    Department Profile:

    The department of Kinesiology is housed withing the College of Education and has over 20 faculty members serving approximately 1,100 graduate and undergraduate students. In August 2025, the department moved into a brand new, state-of-the-art facility with over 16,000 square feet of research space, classrooms, and offices.


    Undergraduates choose from among six concentrations: Sport Administration, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Neuromechanics, Physical Activity and Coaching, Physical Education and Coaching, and Strength and Conditioning. Master's students have four concentrations: Sport Administration, Sport Pedagogy, Disability Studies, and Exercise Physiology. Doctoral students choose between Sport Studies and Exercise Science.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Develop a sustained and rigorous research agenda that contributes to the department’s research mission and vision
    • Develop and sustain external funding
    • Publish in high-quality peer-reviewed outlets in area of expertise
    • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Strength and Conditioning and Exercise Science
    • Supervise graduate and undergraduate student research projects
    • Supervise graduate student theses and dissertations
    • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in professional development
    • Develop and enhance Strength and Conditioning curricula at the graduate level
    • Support the ongoing maintenance, documentation, and continuous improvement processes required for accreditation of the undergraduate Strength and Conditioning program.
    • Collaborate with departmental faculty on research, curriculum development, and program initiatives
    • Establish service-learning opportunities for students
    • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and profession or community

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Doctoral degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Kinesiology, with a specialization in Strength and Conditioning or related field
    • ABD candidates will be considered.
    • Evidence of high-quality peer-reviewed publications or strong potential for such
    • Demonstrated potential to conduct research and engage in scholarly and creative activities
    • Demonstrated potential to teach at the college level
    • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential from the National Strength and Conditioning Association

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Demonstrable evidence of using a variety of instructional strategies, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid delivery, experiential learning, or field-based experiences to engage students
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other institutional employees
    • Evidence of successful undergraduate and/or graduate teaching in Exercise Science and Exercise Physiology
    • Established or emerging focused research agenda with a record of research publications and presentations
    • Demonstrated potential to secure grants and external funding
    • Evidence of professional and leadership activities

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team of scientists
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
