    Job Description:

    The Department of Animal Sciences is seeking an Agricultural Assistant III. This position is based at the UF Horse Teaching Unit and will provide advanced support to the daily operations of the Horse Teaching Unit. This individual will be involved in the care of horses and assist with research data collection and other duties as assigned. The employee will perform routine maintenance on facilities and equipment; keep accurate records relating to expenditures, inventories, and maintenance logs; assist with classes. This position will also provide oversight to Ag Assistant I and Ag Assistant II positions as well as student employees.

    Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    - Operate equipment used delivering feed, mowing pastures, dragging arenas and moving compost.

    - Perform advanced maintenance activities for all unit grounds, buildings, and fences and the maintenance of farm equipment and farm vehicles. Will drive state vehicle to transport animals to and from Equine Sciences Center, vet school, and extension program locations.

    - Perform or assist with care, feeding and management of horses in accordance with University animal care and use guidelines.

    - Assist with record keeping on horses, personnel and equipment as needed to meet program needs. Will utilize computer skills to be able to create equipment repair and maintenance records.

    - Perform or assist with facility construction and farm improvement.

    - Oversee work done by Ag Assistant I and Ag Assistant II positions and student labor as needed.

    - Set up for and assist during events.

    - Assist with research projects including animal care, data collection and records management.

    - Assist with projects at Equine Sciences Center. Other duties as assigned.

    Normal Work Schedule:

    7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. or 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Monday through Friday (40 hrs per week)

    Some weekends and evenings required for animal care and special events.

    Requires work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, rain, dust, pollen).

    This position will be considered an essential personnel position in emergency situations.

    Expected Salary:

    $20.60 - $21.56 per hour commensurate with education and experience

    Required Qualifications:

    High school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

    Valid driver license.

    Preferred:

    Horse-handling experience
    Able to operate tractor, mowers, chain saw and weed eater
    Ability to keep accurate computerized records
