Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.
Unit Position Summary
The MSU IT Infrastructure Support team consists of experienced networking professionals from various backgrounds. They are tasked with the planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of the critical infrastructure essential to the university's daily functions. Our mission is centered on the stewardship and administration of the university's infrastructure, which includes wired and wireless networks, DDI (DNS, DHCP, and IPAM), switching and routing, and telecommunications. The team is instrumental in maintaining the technological foundation that supports the university's operations. The perspective candidate reports to the Assistant Director and will be required to:
Assist with the implementation of MSU’s Network Modernization Project, focusing on hardware configuration, deployment, and basic network troubleshooting.
Assist with the installation and configuration of L2 Juniper switches and related network hardware.
Support wired and wireless network upgrades in campus buildings, including Residential Halls.
Perform IT closet readiness tasks, such as cable management and equipment labeling.
Document and update network asset records and deployment status in tracking systems.
Collaborate with full-time staff and other student employees to ensure timely project execution.
Desired Qualifications
Basic understanding of networking concepts and hardware components. Experience with or exposure to Juniper (or similar) switching technologies preferred. Familiarity with MSU’s network infrastructure or prior work in an institutional IT setting is a plus. Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Current MSU student in good academic standing, preferably pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field..
Customer Service skills
Experience with network wired and wireless technologies
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
