Job Description:

The Florida Sea Grant (FSG) Program Associate will work on the Plastic Free Cities Orlando program, which educates youth to help businesses in their communities reduce single-use plastic. The Program Associate will work closely with a project team from OC and IFU to implement the project, with a focus on on-the-ground work such as delivering trainings, facilitating canvassing, and supporting events. The Program Associate will be trained to deliver lessons to high school students about plastic pollution, sustainable business, and community engagement. The Program Associate will be part of a team that leads business canvassing trips with high school students, surveying businesses about current plastic usage and encouraging and providing resources for businesses in Orlando to reduce plastic purchasing. The Program Associate will assist with the coordination of cleanups and other community events to educate the broader public about plastic pollution and marine debris. The Program Associate will document project activities and report back to FSG.

Expected Salary: $20.00/Hour
Minimum Requirements:

Current graduate student (M.Sc. MPS, Ph.D)

General understanding of plastic pollution or related marine conservation issues

Comfort with public speaking/community engagement

Passion to learn and empower young adults

Must be able to pass Orange County Public Schools’ background screening

Preferred Qualifications:

The Fellow will be trained to deliver lessons and to facilitate canvassing trips, and former experience is not required. However, experience teaching high school students or familiarity with sustainable business principles would be a bonus.
