Job Description:

The College of Medicine (COM) is seeking a Human Resources Specialist II to join the COM-HR Employee Relations Center of Expertise. The position will serve as a liaison between Employee Relations, Graduate Medical Education (GME), and Office of Graduate Education (OGE) by improving communication, alignment, and proactive management for residents, fellows, and graduate assistants within the College of Medicine. The position will provide specialized expertise to navigate unique requirements such as remediation plans, collective bargaining agreements, and program eligibility criteria.

About This Role:

Employee Relations Support

  • Review and manage remediation plans in collaboration with the ER team, ensuring all actions are compliant with university policies, bargaining agreement, and best practices.
  • Provide expert guidance on sensitive employee issues, including mandated EAPs, performances management, and conflict resolution.
  • Track and manage the Level III grievance process as defined by Graduate Medical Education (GME).

Liaison Functions

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Employee Relations in COM-HR to act as a key liaison between the ER team, GME, and OGE, facilitating effective communication and understanding of employee concerns.
  • Meet regularly with GME and OGE leadership to discuss employee relations matters and ensure alignment of approaches.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Monitor and analyze trends in employee relations cases, grievances, and EAP utilization, providing regular reports to leadership for informed decision-making.
  • Identify potential concerns or trends that may require interventions or additional training ensuring a proactive approach to employee relations management.

Training and Development

  • Work with the Assistant Director of Employee Relations in COM-HR to design and conduct training sessions for GME and OGE leadership on employee relations best practices, compliance concerns, and effective communication strategies.
  • Complete and distribute resources to support GME and OGE staff in understanding employee relations processes.

Expected Salary:

$62,000-$68,000 annually

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 3-5 years of experience in employee relations, ideally within academic, healthcare, or Graduate Medical Education (GME) settings.
  • Strong understanding of applicable employment laws and regulations.
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
  • Experience with remediation processes and ADA compliance.
  • Familiarity with the unique dynamics and challenges of GME, including residency and fellowship requirements.
