CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Delaware in Kent and Sussex Counties is a year-round membership cooperative providing in-person and online lifelong learning courses and programming for the educational, cultural and intellectual benefit of roughly 500 members, from age 50 and up, with an average age of 73. These programs, primarily located in Dover, Lewes, and Ocean View, hold two full semesters and one summer session with more than 300 in-person, online and hybrid courses taught annually by more than 100 volunteer instructors. OLLI in Kent and Sussex Counties is one of two OLLIs at the University of Delaware, along with OLLI in Wilmington.

Under the general direction of the Director, the Program Coordinator develops opportunities to expand, diversify and support OLLI program initiatives with an emphasis on curriculum development and instructor and volunteer recruitment, development and training.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the main office for OLLI Kent/Sussex located in Lewes while supporting other sites throughout Kent and Sussex Counties.
  • Oversee complex administrative tasks.
  • Provide involved customer service to OLLI members.
  • Assist with the planning, room logistics, and execution of courses, events, and activities at each OLLI K/S location ensuring compliance with state, local, and University of Delaware regulations.
  • Provide daily support, guidance and assistance to staff and volunteers over a range of activities as determined by membership needs.
  • Supervise miscellaneous wage Classroom/AV Support staff to ensure member satisfaction with online and in-classroom technology.
  • Coordinate instructor and volunteer recruitment, training and development.
  • Solicit, evaluate and recommend proposals for course selection to the curriculum.
  • Coordinate scheduling of courses across locations and modalities, working with UD OLLI-Wilmington and Online staff and volunteers to coordinate online, hybrid and group viewing opportunities.
  • Order equipment and supplies as needed with the Manager’s approval.
  • Interpret University policies and procedures.
  • Physically arrange classroom furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to develop and implement program initiatives with volunteers.
  • Experience working with older adult learners.
  • Proficient in typical office and education technologies (such as Microsoft Office, Zoom, learning management databases and communications platforms).
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of in-person and remote teams.
  • Skill in organizing resources and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to be flexible and make independent decisions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve and work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity and experience working with lifelong learning programs preferred.
  • Experience within an academic setting is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Available to work the occasional night or weekend.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and personal vehicle for non-commute travel on University business as needed (standard University mileage reimbursement provided).
  • Ability to move furniture and equipment up to thirty pounds.
