JOB DESCRIPTION:

Become a NORC summer intern and gain exposure and experience in research and data analysis. NORC's 2025 Summer Internship program is a full-time, paid position available to current rising seniors, undergraduate students who will have graduated by the time the internship begins in June 2025, and graduate students with interests in the social sciences, survey research, data analysis, and research methods. We will be conducting the 2025 internship virtually.

Spend nine weeks collaborating with industry experts to uncover insights that inform public policy decisions. Projects focus on a myriad of topics which may include public health, education, health care, or economics. Explore recent innovations in data collection techniques, survey platforms, analytic approaches, and public outreach. In addition, you will have formal and informal opportunities to learn from and collaborate with NORC staff over the nine-week internship.

This is a fulltime internship (40 hours per week) for a period of 9 weeks during the summer.

• Timing: The 2025 summer internship will begin Monday, June 9th and conclude on Friday, August 8th.
• Hours: Interns should be able to commit to NORC’s 8:15 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. CDT business hours.
• Compensation: The hourly rate of pay for undergraduates is $22 and the hourly rate of pay for graduate students is $25.
• Location: This is a remote position with the option for hybrid work if you live near one of our office locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Take advantage of NORC’s seminar series on emerging topics in survey research and industry best practices
  • Previous interns have worked on the General Social Survey, the National Immunization Survey, the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey, the Women’s Health Needs Study, and the National Database on Police Use of Force.
  • Gain exposure to all facets of the research process—from designing research questions to developing appropriate modes for data collection to formulating new analyses of results and creative ways of presenting results.
  • Apply and develop your technical skills, while honing collaboration and project management skills
  • Combine social science and statistical methods with the practical challenges of day-to-day project implementation
  • Learn the principles of research from leading practitioners
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Must be a current rising senior, or current senior undergraduate students who will have graduated by the time the internship begins.
  • Current graduate students with interests in the social sciences, survey research, data analysis, and research methods.
  • Preparation in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
  • Skills in statistical or general-purpose programming (e.g., SAS, Python, R, Java) recommended
  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in social science research
  • Curiosity about how to build a study design from fundamental data collection procedures
  • Conscientiousness and ability to thrive in a team environment
  • Creativity, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
