Job Description:

Assists in the Hialeah Dental Clinic with dental operatory set-up; assists at chair-side providing dental support services (expanded duties) as permitted by Florida law. Works with faculty and staff to insure the delivery of aseptic dental care to patients.

Takes, develops, and mounts x-rays. Instructs patients in oral hygiene. Cleans and sorts dental instruments and maintains an inventory of the same. Packages and sterilizes clinical supplies (i.e., cotton pellets, cotton rolls, and 2X2s). Maintains and sterilizes hand pieces. Sterilizes dental instruments, using dry heat, steam, and chemical vapor. Delivers sterile instruments and retrieves used instruments. Assists in organizing and controlling the use of clinical supplies.

Greets and prepares patients for treatment. Established rapport with the patient in order to relieve their anxiety. Schedules and coordinates patient appointments. Maintains daily records and patient charts. Collects patient data pertaining to clinical research.

Expected Salary:

$16.00 - $18.00/hr, commensurate with education/experience

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) Certification demonstrating the successful completion of training as specified in Chapter 64B5-16, Florida Administrative Code.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of all phases of dental treatment
• Ability to prepare, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment
• Ability to plan, organize, and perform work assignments
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
• Ability to pay close attention to details
