Job Description:

The Department of Clinical and Health Psychology (CHP) at the University of Florida is seeking applicants for two, 1-year Postdoctoral Associate positions in Clinical Health Psychology. Appropriate candidates will have obtained a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) from an American Psychological Association (APA) or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) - approved graduate program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, as well as completed an APA- or CPA-approved internship in a specialty area related to health and illness. 

Training Opportunities: Our primary goal is to provide a comprehensive training opportunity for Postdoctoral Associates to acquire specialty training in the application of scientific knowledge on the inter-relationships among behavioral, emotional, cognitive, social and biological components in health and disease in order to promote and maintain health, as well as participate in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of illness and disability. The Postdoctoral Associate in Clinical Health Psychology will: (1) develop knowledge regarding (a) the interface between behavior and health and (b) how to deliver high quality clinical services based on that knowledge to individuals, families, and health care systems; (2) develop competence in adult assessment, intervention, feedback, and inpatient/outpatient collaborative team consultations; (3) gain expertise with a variety of questions addressing adjustment to chronic and/or life-limiting illness (oncology), pre-surgical evaluations (solid organ transplantation, mastectomy, spinal cord stimulators, bariatric surgery), chronic pain, sleep, and women's reproductive health; and (4) acquire mentored clinical supervision experiences with graduate student and intern trainees. Each Associate is encouraged to adapt their experiences to meet their own professional goals.   

Training Setting: Training is housed within the UF Health Science Center, which is one of the largest and most comprehensive academic health centers in the Southeast. The UF Health Science Center encompasses six colleges and a statewide network of affiliated hospitals and clinics. The Clinical Health Psychology Service is housed directly in the UF Health Science Center Complex with easy access to our freestanding outpatient clinic (http://chp.phhp.ufl.edu/services/psychology-clinic/). It is integrated as an essential component of UF Health services and disciplines including Oncology, Solid Organ Transplantation, Bariatric Surgery, Pain Management, Sleep Disorders Center, and Obstetrics and Gynecology (https://ufhealth.org). Clinical Health Psychology faculty include: Steve Anton, PhD, Glenn Ashkanazi, PhD, Patricia Durning, PhD, Allison Holgerson, PhD, ABPP, Jessica Payne-Murphy, PhD, ABPP, Rebecca Pearl, PhD, Deidre Pereira, PhD, ABPP, Kathryn Ross, PhD, MPH, and Lori Waxenberg, PhD, ABPP.  

Didactic Experience: The Postdoctoral Associate will participate in monthly training seminars with other Postdoctoral Associates in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. Associates will be encouraged to attend a variety of Departmental and Health Science Center seminars. For instance, there are weekly/monthly seminars and colloquia within the Department’s training curriculum that expose trainees to a variety of clinical and professional issues.

Advertised Salary:

$61,008; commensurate with experience level and in accordance with current NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines.

Benefits: Postdoctoral associates are eligible for comprehensive health and leave benefits and have access to libraries and other research resources available for faculty and postdoctoral associates. Additionally, postdoctoral trainees receive funds to support professional development (e.g., travel to workshops or national conferences, purchase of educational materials). Professional development funds ($500 per training year) are available.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology

Preferred Qualifications: Interested applicants should have completed an APA or CPA Accredited graduate program and a clinical internship program by the start of the post-doctoral appointment, as well as have a background of course work and training in Clinical Health Psychology.
