Job Description:

Lab bench work - genotyping

Processes to give accurate genotype from animal tissue. Collect and process tissue for DNA and RNA extractions to use for PCR and RT-PCR. Use genotyping equipment and software. Microscope-work, cell sample imaging and scoring. Brain mounting on microscope slides. Nano dropping for DNA concentration and purity. Making agarose gels and several solutions and dilutions used in bench work.

Mouse colony management – Animal handling

Rodent handling and tissue extraction for genotyping. Daily health monitoring and perform treatment procedures including pre and post-surgical care. Colony management includes animal labeling, breeding, and assisting and/or carry out in vivo procedures with supervision.

Administrative work (files and data) – Communication with lab

Record all experiments, tasks, and data on electronic files. Constant communication with Veterinary and breeding core staff to ensure well being of the colony and numbers. Assist in planning of procedures (book rooms etc) and keep colony management software as well lab folders constantly updated will all the relevant information. Assist the lab manager in ordering needed supplies

Cleaning, lab housekeeping, lab member assistance

Perform general laboratory husbandry tasks and assist in keeping the lab clean and in order.

Expected Salary:

$16 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization or a high school diploma and two years of
related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an
equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Good communication, planning, and organization skills are essential for this position.
Willingness to work with rodents is needed for this position. Previous experience with mouse handling is not required but is
highly desired. Wet lab experience and/or neuroscience knowledge is desired but not required for this position.
