Position Function:

The successful candidate should have the potential and be willing to engage in high-impact teaching of core construction specialization in undergraduate and graduate courses, innovative and collaborative research, and/or scholarly outreach and service activities. The Building Construction Science program is unique in its project-based learning model (via studios) in which students work on team projects/ problem-based tasks via extended class time in collaboration with peers (within and outside specialization) and under guidance of instructors to enhance their content knowledge, technical and managerial competencies, and leadership & team skills. The vision of the Building Construction Science Department is to be a global leader in education, research, and innovation in the built environment. The mission is to create stimulating learning experiences for our students by engaging them in the discovery of techniques and management of construction processes and projects.

Salary Grade: UC

Department Profile:

The Department of Building Construction Science (BCS) in the College of Architecture, Art, and Design invites applications for a nine-month, full-time, non tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor of Practice level starting in August of 2025. Located in a college that includes the disciplines of architecture, art, and interior design, the BCS Department utilizes a core curriculum of eight different six-credit, project-based studios that integrate multiple construction content areas coordinated to advance integrated design/construction education. Through its innovative approach to interdisciplinary education in the built environment, the BCS Department produces collaborative-minded construction professionals – critical thinkers who rigorously engage new challenges in the rapidly changing construction and business environment.

Tenure Track Status:

Non-Tenure Track

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach Building Construction Science courses and participate in service. The typical teaching load for non tenure-track faculty is twelve credit-hours per semester for Fall and Spring semesters. The successful candidate will have a 9-month appointment and should be prepared to teach the “building studio” course along with various other construction courses such as Construction Materials and Methods, Construction documents/plan reading, Estimating, Scheduling, Construction Equipment, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Construction Technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

A graduate or professional degree in construction or a closely related field.
Established professional experience in construction or a related discipline.
Excellent communication (oral, written, and digital) skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications and/or licensure related to the applicant's professional field (e.g., PMP, CCM, PE, LEED AP). Teaching experience, preferably with a demonstrated record of effective teaching in higher education (e.g., through evidence of student evaluations of teaching).
Demonstrated experience in the construction industry and its leadership.
Engagement in academic program leadership and/or professional organizations.
Experience serving diverse communities and building inclusive cultures (e.g., through outreach, service, program development).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Successful candidate(s) will have teaching experience.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Minimum physical efforts. General office environment.
