The Assistant Director collaborates closely with the Senior Director of Development to craft and present compelling mid-range ($25K-$100K) and major ($100K-$500K) gift proposals. Portfolio Management

  • Build and manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects of all capacities with a focus on proposals between $25,000 and $100,000 and corporate engagement.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit corporate and foundation prospects that align with the needs, priorities, and research of UF colleges and units.
  • Seek guidance from the Senior Director for proposals at or above $100,000.
  • Proactively engage key UF faculty, program staff, and development officers across all disciplines to identify needs and priorities.
  • Identify, coordinate, and steward new and existing corporate and foundation relationships.
  • Draft, edit, and submit proposals and other funding opportunities according to the requirements and processes established for each individual funding institution.

Project Management

  • Actively monitor proposal progression, including, but not limited to, processing letters of agreement, tracking proposals from submission to decision, meeting post-funding reporting deadlines, and responding to funding institution requests for additional information, as necessary.
  • Ensure timely action within frequent and firm deadlines unique to each proposal and ensuing funding.
  • Coordinate and oversee campus visits for corporate and foundation representatives, including, but not limited to, engaging key stakeholders to secure participation, building itineraries, and building customized experiences for visitors that enhance their relationship with the university community.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for funding institutions when necessary and provide reports as requested.
  • Act as an intermediary between UF faculty and funding institutions as necessary, ensuring that all appropriate stakeholders are aware of and engaged in the proposal process.
  • Proactively communicate with funding institutions regarding deadlines, submissions, and other needs.
  • Attend events as a representative for the University and/or UF Advancement.
  • Communicate the funding priorities and top initiatives of the requesting college/unit.

Strategic Initiatives & Collaboration

  • Attend team meetings as an assigned liaison of the Corporate & Foundation Relations team, gathering information about relevant college/unit priorities and reporting back to the Central CFR team.
  • Engage colleagues across the UF Advancement community to help build, maintain, and invest in professional relationships that allow for collaboration as opportunities allow.
  • Meet with faculty to discuss funding priorities, provide insight on how to leverage corporate and foundation relationships, and encourage a deeper understanding of philanthropic support.
  • Meet regularly with Corporate & Foundation Relations colleagues across the UF community to foster collaboration, develop and promote best practices, and contribute to and ensure alignment with the Corporate & Foundation Relations strategy for the University.

Individual Portfolio Management

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals who have the capacity to make gifts at the annual fund and/or mid-range levels. These prospects would be identified based on their roles with companies or foundations that surface as potential university prospects.

Expected Salary:

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • One to three years of major gift fundraising experience in corporate and foundation relations is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in a university or nonprofit environment, enthusiasm for fundraising in a comprehensive research university, and the desire to work collegially within a goal-oriented fundraising organization.
  • General knowledge and understanding of business/economic environment.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles, methods, and standards.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in prospect identification, relationship building, solicitation and stewardship.
  • The ability to work strategically, develop and implement constituency programs and activities, along with a talent for motivating volunteers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and a team player.
  • Competency in problem solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be an outstanding communicator and possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills; and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with a broad constituency.
  • Proven success working with stakeholders; experience in a data-driven environment; organizational skills; and the ability to lead, influence and motivate others are required.
  • Working knowledge in these areas: Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, internet browsers, preferably Chrome, E-mail. Working knowledge of a donor database, contact management and tracking system like Salesforce.
  • The ability and willingness to travel. A valid driver license and safe driving record are essential.
