Job Description:

Position Function:

Reporting to the Director of Student Leadership and Community Engagement, the Assistant Director is responsible for developing, enhancing, and managing service programs and community engagement initiatives. This position oversees the daily operations of the Maroon Volunteer Center (MVC), serving as a key liaison to cultivate relationships with local volunteer organizations as well as university, national, and global partners. The Assistant Director will also lead student outreach and engagement activities, assist with special projects, and serve on various committees.

Salary Grade: 15

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Goals: Develop and implement community engagement goals aligned with Student Leadership and Community Engagement, the Division of Student Affairs, and university policies.
2. Recruitment & Program Oversight: Lead recruitment and manage the development, execution, and daily operations of community engagement activities.
3. Research & Marketing: Conduct research, manage databases, and oversee marketing campaigns across various platforms. Implement evaluation methods for programs.
4. Event Coordination: Maintain the campus software for volunteer engagement and promote engagement initiatives within the university and local community.
5. Collaboration & Planning: Work with internal and external partners to develop service and volunteer opportunities. Create training materials and advocate for service-based education and community engagement.
6. Program Management: Collaborate with organizations to plan and manage community engagement events and activities.
7. Budget & Funding: Assist with budget management and secure funding to ensure program sustainability.
8. Supervision: May supervise graduate assistants, professional staff members, and interns and practicum students.
9. Data & Reporting: Oversee data collection and reporting for community engagement activities and impact assessments.
10. Program Leadership: Develop, implement, and evaluate initiatives such as Alternative Break trips, Service Dawgs, signature days of service programming and events, and support annual awards and recognition programs and planning.
11. Lead student engagement activities that include campus-wide programming and outreach, including the Service Dawgs service group.
12. Serve on divisional, university, and community committees as assigned or required.
13. Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree - college student personnel services and administration, higher education, student leadership, or related area
• 3+ years of progressive experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
• Advanced knowledge of software management systems (i.e. Anthology and GivePulse)
• Advanced knowledge of various software packages (including spreadsheets, word processing, and e-mail)
• Crisis response management, conduct, learning communities, assessment, and diverse student and staff populations.
• Progressive supervision, leadership, and management of part-time or full-time staff experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree - college student personnel services and administration, higher education, student leadership, or related area
• 4+ years of progressive experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
• Advanced knowledge of software management systems (i.e. Anthology and GivePulse)
• Advanced knowledge of various software packages (including spreadsheets, word processing, and e-mail)
• Crisis response management, conduct, learning communities, assessment, and diverse student and staff populations.
• Progressive supervision, leadership, and management of part-time or full-time staff experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Previous experience with student organizations (advising, mentoring, or coaching)
• Demonstrated leadership evident in effective management.
• Excellent communication and intrapersonal skills.
• Proficient knowledge of computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Suite).
• Proficient knowledge of software management systems (e.g., Anthology and GivePulse)

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

· Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed indoors.

· Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting a minimum of 25 pounds
· Frequent evening and weekend work is required.
