Job Description:

This position resides in the University of Florida (UF) Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Florida Engineering Experiment Station (FLEXStation). Specifically, the position is in Sarasota County at the UF Innovation Station Sarasota County (Innovation Station) and the position reports directly to the Innovation Station Regional Director in Sarasota County. This position is responsible for everyday coordination and execution of Innovation Station programs primarily targeting regional economic impact through working with industry. This professional will work closely with the regional entrepreneurial, investor, and company communities in developing the technology and resources that have the potential to contribute to the competitive advantage of the community. The Innovation Station mission is to deliver services supportive of economic development by connecting the region’s industry and citizens to the UF College of Engineering students, faculty and technology with the goal of enhancing company, product and career development opportunities.

The Industry Programs Coordinator will be a member of the Innovation Station professional staff and have responsibility under the direction of the Innovation Station Regional Director for design and delivery of the following broad community outreach services:

• Provide an avenue to applied research collaborations with UF faculty resident at the Gainesville campus, a pipeline of College of Engineering students from UF’s main campus for internships in Sarasota County and the surrounding region, and assistance to help grow a broad engineering workforce pipeline.
• Foster online engineering entrepreneurship and innovation offerings, insight to University technology, introduction to potential student interns, and targeted workshop offerings in fields of need.

Additionally, the Industry Programs Coordinator will support other Innovation Station professional staff who will lead design and delivery of the following community outreach services:

• Deliver collaborative offerings contributing to the development of a pipeline of creative engineering innovators from K-12 through career entry by connecting College of Engineering faculty, staff and students located on the main campus, including through online offerings, to Sarasota County K-12 and upper level educational institutions and industry.

Lead and support roles of these types of job responsibilities between Innovation Station professional staff may vary as programmatic demands dictate and as directed by the Innovation Station Regional Director.

Under the direction of the Innovation Station Regional Director, design and deliver mutually beneficial programs between the UF Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and Sarasota region industry. These will include as examples working with the regional community to establish an engineering talent pipeline to serve existing and new companies in the region, introducing UF technology opportunities to the regional entrepreneur and investor communities, establishing access points to UF prototyping facilities and expertise from the Gainesville campus, and providing a conduit to match the community’s research and technology needs with College of Engineering researcher expertise and infrastructure from Gainesville.

Work with the Innovation Station Workforce Programs Coordinator to design and deliver mutually beneficial programs between the UF Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and Sarasota region citizens, industry and academic collaborators focused on workforce development. These will include as examples working with the regional private, public and academic sectors to establish training opportunities through UF online offerings as well as outreach at local institutions to the community’s citizens, establishing avenues for regional companies to engage in engineering design programs offered by UF on its Gainesville campus, and providing means to regional entrepreneurs, companies and executives to engage with UF College of Engineering students, faculty and academic offerings online, on the Gainesville campus, and at regional companies.

Represent the University of Florida Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering in engagement with regional private, academic and public sector stakeholders including but not limited to government agencies, companies, investors, citizen groups and academic administrators as appropriate.

Track activities and outcomes and assemble regular reports and present to stakeholders. Support planning and presentation of goals, objectives and metrics for activities in upcoming years. Liaise with program supporters regularly.

Other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:

$65,000-$75,000; commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer Master’s/Bachelor’s Degree in engineering including computer science and information technology or appropriate field, along with two or more years of appropriate work experience in engineering fields including computer science and information technology.

Work experiences with small to large companies, entrepreneurs, investors, community support organizations and academic institutions are highly desired. Experience with special groups such as minorities and women will also be an asset. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion and multicultural competence.
