Job Description:

Patient Interaction (Phlebotomy):
Performs phlebotomies and provides patients with prepared written instructions regarding proper collection of specimens. Works in EPIC. Enters lab encounters for athletes and outside lab orders. Checks insurance, accesses handling fees, maintains the supply inventory in the phlebotomy area and orders supplies from UF PathLabs as needed.


Processing:
Centrifuges and aliquots samples. Resolves and documents problem specimens and/or orders. Ensures specimens and requisitions are correctly labeled. Sends out tests to corresponding labs. Uses knowledge of common send out tests and the ability to navigate the test menu for various reference laboratories. Recognizes specimen rejections and completes the appropriate follow-up procedures. Answers/redirects phone calls. Keeps track of reagent and supply inventory. Empties Biohazard boxes/bins. Communicates daily on communication log. Processes add-on test requests from providers. Helps client services with provider requests. Performs CLIA-waived testing and enters results into EPIC.

Triage:
Receives and records all specimens, prints out labels and/or paperwork, identifies specimen containers, and creates packing lists to be delivered to appropriate lab and designated location. This also includes patient check-in for specimen collection.


CP Accessions: Prepares clinical pathology laboratory specimens in EPIC for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. Unpacks and routes specimens by type to various areas. Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations such as the hematology or urinalysis bench.

Expected Salary:

Starting salary is between $17.00 - $17.50 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree in an appropriate area; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Communication skills which will allow the prospective employee to interact with UF physicians, client physicians, and other health professionals in a professional manner.

Ability to know where to obtain information in order to carry out the responsibilities of the position in the absence of the laboratory manager.

Ability to communicate and give concise and understanding of instructions.

Knowledge of the types of laboratory tests, patient preparation, and handling and storage of specimens. Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.

Ability to perform phlebotomy on patients.

Ability to communicate effectively - verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.

Ability to work in a potentially stressful environment.

Ability to quickly learn various aspects of Lab Operations.

Knowledge of Medical terminology.
