Job Description:

Position Function:

This position is responsible for managing the operations of the Campus Card Office within the Integrated Security Management Division of the Mississippi State University Police Department and reports to the Integrated Security Management Division Manager. The Campus Card Office produces and manages Mississippi State University ID cards for faculty, staff, students, retirees and affiliates, produces and manages key cards for special events and summer camps, and manages or coordinates services associated with the MSU ID card. The manager is required to develop and have a thorough working knowledge of the MSU ID card policies and procedures and possess the technical ability to utilize the software and hardware required in card creation and distribution. The individual must have strong communication skills, be willing to work with many different stakeholders and take initiative in responding to questions and concerns. Occasional weekend and evening hours are required: particularly at fall move in.

Salary Grade: 14

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Efficiently operate campus card production facilities to provide MSU ID cards to the MSU community.
2. Market and promote the services of the Campus Card Office.
3. Provision and manage services delivered via the MSU ID card such as summer camps and special events.
4. Develop and implement new programs and procedures related to the MSU ID card and associated services.
5. Work closely with Enrollment Services to provide ID cards to new students at annual orientation events.
6. Supervise Campus Card Office support staff and student workers.
7. Monitor operations for compliance with university policies and applicable standards and regulations.
8. Assist with reviewing and revising ID card policy.
9. Work closely with ITS and Integrated Security Management Division to troubleshoot issues with ID cards in association with access control systems, attendance tracking.
10. Perform related duties as assigned.
11. Maintain campus card hardware and train personnel on how to use hardware.
12. Deal effectively with and provide information to visitors to the campus card office.
13. Interactions may include walk-in traffic, telephone or email.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university Business Administration, Accounting or Information Technology.

2 years experience in customer service.

Any equivalent combination of education and full-time work experience approved by Human Resources Management.

• Aptitude for learning and using information technology systems and services.
• Possess exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to concentrate/focus for long periods of time.
• Aptitude to quickly learn accounting practices used at MSU.
• Exhibits self-motivation.
• Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Possess general Banner navigation and functional experience.
• Requires no supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exhibits strong aptitude to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks throughout the day.
  • Possess excellent organization and supervisory skills.
  • Possess the ability to establish working relationships with other units on and off campus.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. No unusual physical requirements.
2. Requires no heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
3. Frequent - Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; irregular hours may be anticipated; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position.
4. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
5. Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
6. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
7. Hearing requirements: Heavy telephone contact requires ability to hear and respond to telephone conversations.
8. Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead-time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; most priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
