Job Description:

Position Function:

Responsible for providing staff support to University Fire and Safety Program.

Salary Grade: 12

Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct routine inspections, test runs, maintenance of all fire sprinkler systems associated with MSU facilities. Facilities will include those located on the main campus as well as facilities located in Meridian, MS including MSU Meridian campus and Riley Center facilities.

Coordinate the annual inspection of all pressure vessels located on the main campus of MSU. Includes maintaining inventory of all pressure vessels and ensuring all vessels are properly marked and tagged as certified.

Provide assistance with the initial facility safety reviews and conduct review follow-ups.

Provide assistance with inspections associated with fire and safety life systems of renovation and new construction projects.

Provide assistance with fire drills for all main campus facilities, including Residence Halls.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma

Experience: Five years in fire safety, building construction, or maintenance

Preferred Qualifications:

NICET certification in water-based fire suppression systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent computer skills, including, but not limited Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.

Excellent written or oral communication skills

Ability to travel in-state

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Must work with hazardous materials and be in areas where biological materials, chemicals, and/or radiation are present.

Frequent external imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
