Job Description:

This position is in the NextGen DNA Sequencing Core of the Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research at the University of Florida. The person holding this position will work under the supervision of the NGS lab manager to perform general lab procedures and duties including maintenance tasks associated with the organization and upkeep of the NGS lab, reagent and supply inventory, sample receipt and storage, QC of samples submitted for sequencing and proper documentation of lab work. This position is a part-time position for 24 hours per week.

Performs QC of samples submitted to the NGS lab. This includes assessing the quantity and quality of materials as a way to determine suitability for Nextgen DNA sequencing procedures. Properly tracks samples and documents laboratory work.

Performs maintenance tasks associated with the upkeep of the NGS lab such as the proper disposal of biohazard trash, receiving and storage of samples.

Monitors supply of reagents and consumables and regularly updates inventories.

Assists with the administrative duties necessary for proper handling of receipts and orders.

Expected Salary:

$15 - $16 per hour, commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environments

- Great communication skills

- Bachelor's degree with a science major

- Previous experience in a core lab
