Job Description:

Position Function:

This position with collaboration from faculty in the Center for 4-H Youth Development, will coordinate 4-H subject matter programming at the Regional, State and National level.

Salary Grade: 15

Department Profile:

This position will be located in the Center for 4-H Youth Development in Starkville, MS.

Anticipated Appointment Date:

July 16, 2024.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct needs assessments with Extension Agents and stakeholders to determine programmatic needs.
• Develop statewide programs focused on the 4-H positive youth development framework.
• Build and strengthen relationships with Specialist, Corporate sponsors, and businesses to support the 4-H Youth Development Program.
• Coordinate with Extension specialist to provide training on identified needs.
• Develop online training modules for Extension Agents and Volunteers.
• Create materials and publications related to 4-H youth development and marketing strategies.
• Develop strategies to market 4-H across the state and grow financial support.
• Create programmatic evaluations and maintain data associated with programs to enhance marketing and funding opportunities.
• Work with State Specialists to establish clear pathways from 4-H project work to college and career readiness.
• Oversee statewide and national opportunities for civic engagement including but not limited to Mississippi 4-H Club Congress, National 4-H Congress, and IGNITE by 4-H.
• Travel overnight for workshops, conferences, and other events; work with volunteers to prepare youth for these events.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. The position requires a Bachelor's degree.
2. Three (3) years experience working in a youth development organization.
3. Must pass a background check.
4. Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel locally, statewide, and nationally if necessary.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. A Masters or PhD or EdD or equivalent years’ experience in positive youth development or related field.
2. Experience in 4-H youth development programs and teaching methodologies.
3. Commitment to professional development.
4. Skilled in group facilitation.
5. Knowledgeable in grant writing and scholarly activities.
6. Ability to use online technologies for educational program delivery.
7. Ability to create marketing materials related to the program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals, groups and through mass media.
Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes nights, weekends, and overnight travel.
Demonstrate ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and engage with outside resources.
Ability to lift, move, and transport programmatic supplies and equipment as well as extended periods of standing to perform educational activities.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Organizational skills needed to facilitate complex programs.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
• Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
• Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
