Job Description:

The Department of Neuroscience is seeking a highly motivated full time Biological Scientist II to join Dr. Burke/Maurer lab focusing on scientific support for research centered on exploring the role of neuronal circuits and metabolism in complex rodent behavior across the lifespan. Knowledge of IACUC, EH&S and UF purchasing procedures represent a significant and integral part of our research needs. Basic knowledge of brain tissue handling, molecular biology and transgenic colony maintenance is also critical.

Duties Include:

• Inspection preparations and compliance regarding surgical procedures.
• Maintaining surgical and electrophysiology equipment.
• Monitoring all surgical procedure and related drug (DEA) logs.
• communicating any concerns/issues with PIs as necessary.
• Ensuring EH&S, IACUC, DEA compliance requirements are met by providing oversight and training, ordering supplies, inventory, radiation surveys, supervising compliance with hazardous waste and biological safety requirements, routine record keeping, maintaining stock solutions including cell culture media and common buffers.
• Expense and finance via invoices/consolidation of payment for all supplies/travel using Concur.
• Maintain laboratory website utilizing WordPress to makes trainee, alumnus, research and publication updates.

Expected Salary:

$50,000.00 - $55,000.00

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in biology or a related field with 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree required

Preferred Qualifications:

High degree of competency in survival surgeries, specifically cannulations and electrode implantation.
Experience with euthanasia and tissue harvesting.
Histology experience.
