The University of Florida has an opening for the faculty position of Clinical Veterinarian at the Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology in Jupiter, Florida

The successful candidate will provide on-site clinical veterinary services in support of the researchers at the Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology in Jupiter, Florida (primary) while also working remotely with the Animal Care Program at the University of Florida Gainesville Campus (secondary). Occasional travel to the UF Gainesville campus may be required.

This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position reporting directly to the UF Attending Veterinarian and indirectly to the UF Scripps CFO.

The Clinical Veterinarian will provide high quality veterinary care to laboratory animal species housed on the UF Scripps campus, with an emphasis on rodents. Additionally, the Clinical Veterinarian will contribute to the development and improvement of policies and procedures pertaining to the program, work collaboratively with the UF Scripps IACUC by participating in inspections, reviewing IACUC protocols and serving as a member of the UF Scripps IACUC, and provide advice and consultation on federal, state and local rules and regulations pertaining to animal use. Remote work with the Gainesville campus will include participation on the Animal Care Services clinical team and support with the UF Gainesville IACUC.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with salary and experience.

Minimum Requirements:
  • DVM from an AVMA accredited institution or ECFVG certificate and license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state in the United States.
  • The successful candidate must become licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Florida and obtain USDA accreditation within one year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ACLAM Board Certified or eligible to complete certification
  • Ability to obtain USDA National Veterinary Accreditation Category II
  • Ability to obtain DEA registration
  • Ability to obtain clearance to work in an ABSL3 facility
  • 3-5 years experience working in laboratory animal medicine
  • Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations and policies that govern the use of laboratory animals.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory animal husbandry and facilities.
  • Familiarity with surgical and medical procedures commonly performed in laboratory animals.
  • Experience with IACUC work and teaching/training.
  • Understanding of biological, chemical and radiation hazards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Animal Resources Center and IACUC staff, and with academic leaders and researchers throughout the UF Scripps campus.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with basic computing systems and programs including web-based applications, telecommunication tools and videoconferencing software, and Microsoft Office.
