Job Description:

Assist in installation, repair, and management of data collection equipment, both remote and wired. Diagnose and repair electronic instruments used to monitor and record a variety of environmental conditions. Test new electronic equipment/instruments for application in a variety of field locations. Evaluate experiment protocol, select and calibrate sensors as needed. Make recommendations for alteration, upgrades, and replacement of hardware components.

Instruct others, including graduate students, in the procedures to operate, maintain, and program automated data acquisition equipment. Plan and coordinate the purchase of data acquisition, computer upgrades including hardware and software upgrades for Linux OS, and related equipment.

Assist with design and selection of components for implementing field and controlled environment experiments related to sensors, data collection, and related programing/software including programming dataloggers, and managing and administrating Linux OS. These duties include computer and data transfer, storage, and backup needs for design of such systems.

Provide backup to IT staff and other core department needs, including the backup of field experiments data for future use.

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of engineering
Skills in programming with computer software, including management and administration of Linux OS
Skills in using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments related to data collection and electronics
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data and trouble shoot problems
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
Ability to communicate engineering information effectively, verbally and in writing

Special Instructions to Applicants:
