JOB DESCRIPTION:

Statistician II, (Chicago, IL)– Telecommuting Permissible. (multiple positions). Design and implement rigorous, efficient methods for sampling, weighting, and imputation for sample surveys and evaluation research; Integrate statistical modelling, machine learning methods, and data visualization for analyzing and interpreting data; Write and implement computer programs to make statistical calculations necessary for selecting samples; Contribute to and review the sample weighting, variance estimation, and analysis sections of sample design reports, final technical reports, and other documentary deliverables; Interact with clients on a moderate basis regarding methodological issues, providing technical information on the types of analyses, limitations of the data, and strengths/weaknesses of various strategies; Contribute to or write the methodological sections of technical proposals and contribute to the statistical sections of technical proposals. Telecommuting permissible. Salary: $105,304 to $115,000 per year. Requires a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Statistics, Public Policy or related field, and two (2) years’ work experience in the job offered or a related statistical research position. Also requires two (2) years of experience with each of the following: performing SAS and R programming that clean and process large scale survey data, derive and impute variables, & perform statistical analyses and modeling; providing statistical consulting and analyses and programming support to clients; developing automated processes and macros for producing data deliveries, survey weights and tabulations of weighted survey estimates; maintaining the selection, collection, storage, and retrieval of samples plus their relevant data; and providing substantive analyses for the statistical sections of reports, and writing the methodological and statistical sections of technical proposals and other deliverables.. DEPARTMENT: Statistics and Data Science

The Statistics and Data Science department conducts a wide range of statistical and data science projects, engaging in statistical analysis, modeling, data linkage, statistical matching, disclosure control, small area estimation, and Bayesian analysis, to support all aspects of social science research. NORC statisticians and data scientists design and implement rigorous, efficient methods for sampling, weighting, and imputation for sample surveys and evaluation research. They also employ statistical modelling, machine learning methods, and data visualization for analyzing and interpreting data. The department collaborates with the Methodology and Quantitative Social Sciences department, all NORC research departments, and the Academic Research Centers in addition to conducting research in its own field.
