Job Description:

The Office of Human Resources at the University of Florida is seeking a full-time mental health professional to join its UF Employee Assistance Program team to help cultivate psychological wellbeing among UF faculty and staff in support of their personal and professional development. This counselor will provide in-person and telehealth short-term therapy, provide group support following critical incidents, and address emerging situations.

The counselor’s primary responsibility is to offer clinical services for individuals who work at the University of Florida. Applicants should have experience working with a wide range of psychosocial (e.g., burnout, marital/familial stress, substance use, interpersonal difficulties) and mental health concerns at varying levels of severity, with the ability to refer to community services as needed. Experience working with doctoral-level professionals, including healthcare workers, is desirable.

Additional responsibilities may occasionally include offering educational presentations and/or programming related to mental health-related topics for UF faculty and staff. This position may be deemed an essential employee with additional required responsibilities during a declared emergency.

Provide direct time-limited individual counseling for faculty and staff with psychological, emotional, career and/or relationship concerns.

Case management, including coordination of cases with UFHR and external providers, referrals, emerging situations, follow-up care with clients, and other UF stakeholders.

Administrative tasks, including preparing, reviewing, and signing clinical documentation.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Licensed professionals with one of the following credentials are qualified to provide psychosocial counseling:
■ Social worker with a master’s degree or a Ph.D. in social work from a Certified Social Work Education-accredited school of social work.
■ Registered nurse with advanced specialized counseling education and training as a clinical nurse specialist or certified psychiatric nurse.
■ Professional licensed to provide clinical, counseling, and psychotherapy services by the Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance.
■ Counselor with a master’s degree in counseling.
■ Psychologist with a Ph.D. in psychology or Psy.D.
■ Master’s or doctoral level graduate student intern from an accredited school of social work or a psychology or counseling program, under the supervision of a licensed practitioner qualified to supervise such interns.

Preferred Qualifications:


• Clinical experience working with university faculty and staff and/or healthcare professionals
• Experience working with individuals with diverse levels of severity of mental health concerns
• Experience with clients and/or family members coping with substance abuse
• Knowledge of Gainesville-area mental health services and providers for referrals, as needed
• Experience effectively maintaining case management records in a timely manner
• Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships
• Collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues and clients
• Demonstrated sensitivity and commitment to multicultural issues/social justice and proven ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups
• Self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals, standards and ethics
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience in workplace mental health, including crisis assessment/management/intervention, short-term treatment, confidentiality requirements, outreach and referral
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure while maintaining collegial relationships with partners and peers
• Ability to work with a range of educational background — from high school through doctoral-level
• Familiarity with quality assurance protocols
