Job Description:

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is seeking an Editor. This position serves as a contributing editor and writer in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Office of Media Services. Responsibilities include writing articles and press releases, handling media requests for information, interviewing faculty, staff, student, alumni, and donors, writing and editing web content, disseminating information to college units about marketing strategies, serving on university-wide committees, assisting with developing annual plans for long-term public relations goals, and assisting with special public events. Requires excellent interpersonal verbal, written, and collaboration skills, excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and work well with a team. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Writes and edits for all CLAS publications. Independently identifies story ideas through regular contact with college units and campus media professionals. Suggests story ideas to the media. Writes and edits press releases about research and events in the college and presents them to the media. Writes and edits web content which is processed through Media Services. Writes, edits and posts content on social media. Assists in writing, editing, production, and proofreading of all CLAS publications. Collaborates with Media Services for graphic design and layout. Writes scripts as requested.

Coordinates dissemination of information to college units through newsletters, fact sheets, and other printed and electronic platforms. Assists with creating long-term goals and strategies.

Manages projects using a provided software system. Updates, modifies, creates, and closes out tasks assigned to writers on the Media Services team. Collaborates with Media Services, CLAS IT, and Strategic Engagement to ensure college deadlines are met.

Coordinates interviews with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to write feature articles and press releases. Cultivates a strong relationship with colleagues at UF and outside UF. Keeps abreast of trends in educational publications and changes in design, etc. May assist with photography and videography. May assist in preparing CLAS faculty for TV and radio broadcasts.

Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

As the largest college on campus, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is charged with teaching the university’s core curriculum. We are home to the humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, and the physical, natural, and mathematical sciences.

Advertised Salary:
The salary is $55,000 to $65,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent and six years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MA or BA in a related field.
  • Experience managing educational publications preferred.
  • Photography and video editing skills desired.
  • Experience managing staff preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
