JOB SUMMARY:

NORC at the University of Chicago is an independent research organization with more than 80 years of leadership and experience in research, data collection and analysis, program evaluation, and policy analysis. NORC seeks a Senior Manager to manage consulting, research, and data analysis projects for health care clients, including health plans, providers, disease groups, and foundations. Such projects will generate insights and quantitative information to inform clients’ business strategy, policy positioning, and external thought leadership.

The Senior Manager will have strong subject matter and technical expertise in 2-3 specific areas as well as a broad understanding of health care coverage, delivery, and access.  The candidate will be responsible for project teams by overseeing junior staff and producing work with limited oversight from senior staff. Candidates should produce superior quality deliverables, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, achieve high client satisfaction, possess strong project management skills, and manage projects within their designated budgets. The Senior Manager will be responsible for understanding clients’ goals, priorities, and preferences. The Senior Manager will also contribute to business development by drafting proposals, building budgets, and brainstorming future opportunities for growth.

DEPARTMENT: HEALTH CARE STRATEGY

NORC Health includes five research departments: Health Care Evaluation, Health Care Programs, Public Health, Health Sciences, and Health Care Strategy, each of which are led by department heads providing the committed leadership and close collaboration across departments. NORC Health departments conduct research to inform the public and policymakers, while improving Americans’ health and quality of life.


The Health Care Strategy (HCS) team consists of professional staff providing a broad range of policy and strategic advisory services and analytics to a wide array of private sector and non-profit clients. HCS is an important component of NORC’s diversification strategy to complement NORC’s robust federal government work portfolio by building more private sector, foundation, and trade association work. This is an exceptional opportunity for a leader with expertise supporting non-government clients that need deep and actionable policy or business insights on how best to meet their policy or business goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Independently manage client projects, translating sophisticated research and analytic methods to deliver superior client satisfaction. Oversee mid and junior level staff working on projects. Elevates problems and seeks help from senior staff appropriately.

  • Strong subject matter or technical expertise in 2-3 priority areas including Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial market policy, financial modeling and claims analysis, prescription drugs, health care delivery system reform, or senior housing. Contribute to business development activities, including drafting scopes of work and budgets once project scope and objectives are clear. Discusses future project opportunities or add-on tasks with clients when opportunities arise. Suggests new projects and services to Health Care Strategy leadership.

  • Acts as a resource for clients during project work. Communicates effectively with clients verbally and in writing. Understands client needs and tailors deliverables to address those needs.

  • Serve as a cross-department resource on a range of topics.

  • Assume supervisory responsibility for junior- and mid-level staff to help shape their professional development and success at NORC.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The pay range for this position is $124,000 – $187,000.

This position is classified as regular. Regular staff are eligible for NORC’s comprehensive benefits program. Benefits include, but are not limited to:
