JOB DESCRIPTION:

NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a qualified Graduate Research Assistant to support research efforts in our Chicago office. #LI-DNI

DEPARTMENT: Public Health

The Public Health Research team conducts work on a variety of public health topics including disease surveillance, health communication science, interpersonal conflict and violence, rural health, health equity, and social determinants of health. Our team includes prominent health policy experts, nationally recognized public health researchers with general and specialized expertise in areas such as rural health and tribal issues, health communications, skilled methodologists, and leaders in the field of survey design and implementation. Our staff also brings expertise in populations of special interest and the intersection of public health and health care delivery. We offer broad, multidisciplinary experiences spanning public health, epidemiology, statistics, policy, developmental psychology, economics, sociology, social work, and political science.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conducting literature reviews of pressing public health issues/topics.
  • Assisting with the creation of datasets of primary and secondary data (e.g. social media marketing data) and organizing data cleaning and management.
  • Performing statistical analysis of primary and secondary data (e.g. national survey data).
  • Preparation of data visualizations including charts, tables, figures, and graphs based on results and findings.
  • Assistance with manuscript or report writing of study related methods, results, and findings.
  • Administrative tasks as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's Degree program.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, critical reasoning, analytic, and writing skills.
  • Experience with statistical data analysis and visualization (e.g., Excel, SAS, R, Stata).
  • The incumbent must demonstrate strong problem-solving capability.
  • The ability to work independently and in project teams.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office software.
SALARY AND BENEFITS

The hourly pay for this position will be $22.

This position is classified as intermittent. Intermittent staff are eligible to participate in NORC’s retirement program. NORC contributes directly to this account without any required employee contributions.  In addition, intermittent staff are eligible to make pre-tax or post-tax contributions as part of NORC’s Supplemental Retirement Plan. Intermittent staff who meet tenure requirements are eligible for three days of holiday pay. All staff at NORC, along with their significant others and dependent children who live at home, can receive free counseling and referrals through NORC’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
