The Opportunity

The College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) at the University of Florida seeks to hire an Assistant In/Associate In Television Production faculty position within the Innovation News Center (INC) (12-month, non-tenure track) to begin for the Fall 2024 term. We are particularly interested in candidates who understand television news production and have experience with television news in a commercial or public media setting. We invite applicants who have prior teaching experience (preferred), in addition to candidates who understand the video and television news ecosystem. Candidates should hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in journalism, media, communication or a related field. Candidates will have the opportunity to teach both undergraduate and graduate classes, and we would especially welcome applicants with the ability to teach multiple courses in the program, including the ability to develop new courses. The selected candidate will teach the equivalent of two three-credit-hour courses during each of UF’s fall, spring and summer semesters, mentor and advise undergraduate students as assigned, manage student content creation with the INC, participate in scholarly and professional organizations, oversee studio setup, maintain and manage the control room and newscast direction of television and video newscasts created within the INC, multiplatform collaboration with fellow managers within the INC, participate in shared governance and perform other duties as assigned. This is an in-person position based in Gainesville, Fla., and will be designated as an essential employee.

Minimum Requirements:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media, Communication(s), or related fields
  • Five years of professional experience in television and video production
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Journalism, Media, Communication(s) or related fields
  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Proficiency in newscast production that includes directing live newscasts for live programming
  • Experience with newscast automation technology, including Ross Overdrive
  • Capacity to teach courses in television production
  • Ability to manage and improve student content creation
  • Capability to engage and mentor students in television production best practices and techniques
  • Commitment to institution-building and collaborative initiatives at the college and university level
