Position Function:

This internship at Mississippi State University is a 12 month clinical program beginning June 15, 2024 and ending June 30, 2025. The intern will rotate between the surgery & medicine (food animal) and theriogenology (all species), both in house, and ambulatory services (large animal, including equine). The internship will focus on providing clinical, hospital based service while learning through interaction by way of consultation with clinical specialists (DACVIM, DACT, MPH). The program is designed to prepare the individual for a residency in a corresponding discipline or entry into private practice. The program is directly supported by 2 diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, 3 diplomates of the American College of Theriogenologists, 4 clinical faculty professors, and 3 support staff. The food animal clinic annual case load is 1,500-1,800 cases/year (beef 60%, dairy 10%, small ruminants 30%) and ambulatory is 1,300 trips/year (40% equine, 40% beef cow/calf and 20% dairy/small ruminants).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties will include assisting in new student orientation, supervision, and instruction of DVM students and veterinary technology students.

Emergency duties on a rotating basis with other residents (1) and interns (1-3) under the guidance of an emergency clinician. This includes after-hours and weekend emergencies for both the Food Animal and Ambulatory services.

Participation in the intern teaching rounds, seminars, and journal club are required.

Providing assistance in veterinary teaching laboratory sessions will be required.

Creative activities such as research and manuscripts preparation are encouraged, but not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must be eligible for employment in the U.S. at the time they apply for a position at MSU-CVM.

Applicants must be a graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary school (see http://www.avma.org/education/cvea/colleges_accredited/allcolleges.asp) and have passed the NAVLE licensure examination, or a graduate that has completed the entire ECFVG qualification process (see http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/default.asp). Applicants must have completed and passed the NAVLE examination or the entire ECFVG process by the time of commencement of the position.
