Job Description:

The UF Health Cancer Center is the 72nd NCI designated cancer center and the only one at a public university in the State of Florida. As a matrix cancer center, we span 11 of the University of Florida's 16 colleges, pulling together a world-class, multi-disciplinary membership of over 330 faculty and 150 staff to address the challenges of the cancer burden faced by the population we serve as we work together to find a cure.

As the Assistant Director of Finance at the UF Health Cancer Center (UFHCC), you will be responsible for leading the UFHCC’s Finance division and overseeing the management and stewardship of the Center’s financial resources and commitments. Leadership experience, expert knowledge of fiscal management in higher education, and decisive, creative-problem-solving skills are necessary for success in this role.

In your new role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Oversight of the Division including management of personnel, financial, and operational resources as well as liaising with institutional and external partners on behalf of the Center.
  • Development and implementation of the strategic direction of the Finance division including process improvements, metrics management, and other related activities.
  • High-level oversight of UFHCC fiscal operations including resolution of barriers to operations, liaising between the Center, the State, the University, etc., as well as ensuring regulatory/institutional compliance and fiscal responsibility.
  • Reporting and analyzing Center financial data and internal metrics to assess and manage the UFHCC’s budget and commitments, making recommendations and forecasting financial needs for Center leadership.

This is a senior, director-level position, ideal for candidates with established careers in finance in higher education and expertise managing complex, highly regulated budgets/finance. Ideal candidates will have an engaged, forward-thinking, and collaborative leadership style with the desire and skillset to grow and refine their division. Expected Salary:

$90,000 - $100,000; commensurate with education & experience.

This is a TEAMS position, and is eligible for a suite of excellent benefits, retirement options, and paid leave.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience:

  • A Masters’ degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a similar discipline.
  • 10 to 12 years’ experience in finance and/or accounting supporting complex operations in higher education, preference given to experience at the University of Florida or another State University System institution.
  • Knowledge of State of Florida fiscal regulations and policies as well as proficiency with GAAP and fiscal best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of fiscal-budgetary management principles, complex financial reporting, and preparation of annual budgets.
  • 5 or more years of experience as a supervisor of finance/fiscal staff and/or a combination of experience and completion of a leadership/management training program (e.g. Managing at UF – The Supervisory Challenge).

Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in budget development and management as well as the ability to articulate and explain complex financial data and reports to non-expert audiences and users.
  • Ability to synthesize aggregate data into meaningful reports on outcomes for presentation to leadership groups and local government agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate program issues, assess solutions, and decisively respond in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Excellent delegation and time-management skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple, cross-functional priorities seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, creative problem solving, and critical thinking skillset.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, particularly proof-reading and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated success and experience in project management, as well as the ability to lead focus groups and committees through project completion.
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite.
