Job Description:

The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking a full time Biological Scientist II. The employee assists with studies to translate AAV gene therapy in preparation for clinical studies. They will perform animal experiments and assays, design, validate and perform antibody, neutralizing antibody and potency assays. They will perform data entry and analysis and prepare date for publication or FDA reporting.
The employee must be able to work independently and anticipate the needs of the laboratory. A Ph.D. in biological sciences or a related field is required and at least 1 years of relevant AAV assay research experience. Candidates should have significant expertise in Western blotting, immunohistochemical staining, cell culture and molecular biology (including DNA cloning, PCR and qRT-PCR), be willing to work with mice and be able to make progress on several concurrent projects.

Essential Functions;

1. Perform and assist in the analysis of scientific experiments including but not limited to design, validate and perform antibody, neutralizing antibody and potency assays, Mouse studies, Western blotting, immunohistochemical staining, cell culture, molecular biology (including DNA cloning, PCR and qRT-PCR) and potency assays.
2. Supervision and coordination of research students and volunteers, including assignment of tasks, evaluation of results and incorporation of data into projects.
3. Maintain and order laboratory supplies and equipment. Maintain regulatory paperwork. Supervise and maintain mouse colonies and perform experiments with mice. Serve as a resource to teach techniques and data analysis to trainees.

Expected Salary:

$50,000 - $55,000 Annually

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in biology or a related field with 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in biology or a related field
• 3 years or more experience in basic laboratory research
• Ability to work independently, to generate, analyze and present data
• Good interpersonal skills; able to work with others in a collaborative environment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in Western blotting, immunohistochemical staining, cell culture and molecular biology (including DNA cloning, PCR and qRT-PCR).
• Willing to work with mice. Proficiency or willing to learn basic mouse techniques
